Let me introduce myself, I am Mariana Marin and I am the founder of Legados. Just to give you a brief idea of who we are, Legados is a non-profit cultural and education institute 793483884RR0001, with the mission is to keep the language alive, and our innovative way of doing it is to use art and Latin American cultures as pedagogical tools. Legados promotes too intercultural and intergenerational encounters to preserve linguistic and cultural diversity in our society.
We created a program and developed our materials.
All of this effort responds to the concrete problem of language loss. The transmission of Spanish is extinguished in the third generation of immigrants anywhere in North America.
A language harbors a priceless heritage of culture, history and wisdom and is of vital importance: in preserving cultural diversity, reinforcing the learning of other languages and improving the social integration of immigrants.
Today Legados needs to grow. Completing the development of our pedagogical materials could help us to develop definitively on Canadian soil and beyond our borders.
On top of everything else, these materials respond TODAY to an urgent need to help newly arrived Spanish-speaking children (often with refugee status) who have significant language deficiencies. Their level of Spanish is below average and they require special reinforcement in Spanish to start learning a new language (French).
The Legados method responds to this need.
Today we are launching this fundraising campaign. Therefore, we are seeking your support to publish our learning method in the form of pedagogical books (teacher's/family book and student's book).
